SUBCOMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

SYMPOSIUM - Tom Hensley, chair
To coordinate a day- or day-and-a-half-long program featuring a nationally or internationally known expert on democratic values during the week of May 4, 2000.


PROGRAM COORDINATING - Larry Andrews and Jerry Lewis, co-chairs
To engage and encourage all constituencies to develop programs in conjunction with the “Experiencing Democracy; Inquire, Learn, Reflect” theme and to schedule these programs and activities.


FAMILY RELATIONS – Carole Barbato, chair
To facilitate two-way communication between the commemoration committee and the families of those students slain or wounded on May 4, 1970.


STUDENT RELATIONS – Kim Larson and Sheryl Smith, co-chairs
To facilitate two-way communication between the commemoration committee and the student body.


COMMUNITY RELATIONS - Margaret Garmon and Carol Neff, co-chairs
To facilitate two-way communication between the commemoration committee and the residents of the city of Kent and surrounding communities.


BUDGET- Margaret Payne, chair
To receive requests for funding and to make recommendations to the Executive Committee.


COMMUNICATIONS – Ron Kirksey chair
To coordinate all media relations, the development of a 30th May 4 Commemoration Web site, all publications, the media resource room, the visitors and information center.


In addition, there will be an Executive Committee, composed of all sub-committee chairs, the committee and the liaison designated by University Relations and Development to provide administrative support to the committee.
