A MESSAGE FROM THE CO-CHAIRS

Dear Members of the Kent State and Kent Communities,

In 2000, Kent State University will mark three decades since the fateful events occurred on our campus on May 4, 1970. As co-chairs of the 30th May 4 Commemoration Committee, we invite you to be a part of this important observance.

The 30th May 4 Commemoration Committee will coordinate and schedule the programming throughout spring 2000, with special emphasis on activities during the week of May 4, 2000. The annual candlelight walk and vigil on May 3 and the program at noon on May 4, 2000, will be organized by the May 4 Task Force student organization.

We encourage all campus and community organizations to consider developing programs and activities that reflect our commemoration theme, “Experiencing Democracy: Inquire, Learn, Reflect.” Through the Office of the President, we are able to offer individuals and organizations the opportunity to apply for program funding. Applications for 30th May 4 Commemoration grants will be available after Sept. 15 in the Department of History, 305 Bowman Hall, or online at this Web site.

We invite you to visit this Web site for updated information on the schedule of events. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Richard A. Bredemeier
Emeritus Vice President for
Enrollment Management and Student Life
