If you cannot make the vigil on Monday, which takes place from midnight to 12:24PM, we invite you to join the vigil online in the virtual world of Second Life. In a public section of Kent State's region, you will be able to find a memorial on top of Blanket Hill, the Commons - with Victory Bell and pictures of the slain students - and the Taylor Hall parking lot - complete with light pillars and granite markers. This is the perfect way to pay your respects to the students lost on May 4, 1970 if you cannot make it to the real life Kent campus.

May 4 Movie "Ohio" Rumors

We are happy to see increased interest in a major motion picture based on the Kent State events.  The May 4 Task Force hopes that this increased interest will help to educate current and future generations into the legacy of this important date in American History.

One thing we noticed was that rumors have Alan Canfora listed as not wounded on May 4, 1970. He was in fact shot in the wrist.  Learn more about Alan and the other wounded and slain students by clicking on the menu at the top left of this screen.

We have no more information to share at this time as we are not directly involved in this process, but hope that we can be invited to any premier!

May 4 Related Scholarships

There are two scholarship funds that are direct responses to the events of May 4, 1970 on our campus:

INCOMING FRESHMEN -The Kent State University Honors College offers 4 FULL TIME merit based scholarships in the names of the four slain students.  Please contact this department for more information.  (Click here to visit the Honors College Scholarship Information page.)

RETURNING KSU STUDENTS - The May 4 Task Force sponsors the May 4 Commemorative Student Activist Scholarship each year. This scholarship was created after the generous donation of the concert performance fee of Peter, Paul and Mary during the 25th anniversary. Contributions have also been made by Fugazi, and many others. The Kent State May 4 CD Project also benefits this scholarship. Requirements include: a reflective paper (minimum of 5 pages, double spaced with appropriate documented sources) on the events of May 4, 1970, student applicant must be active on the Kent State Campus and hold at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA and be returning at least 3/4 or full time next year. To be considered for the scholarship, individuals must complete the on-line 2009-2010 Kent State University Student Financial Aid Scholarship Application. Students can submit the additional essay in the on-line application process. (Click here to visit the SFA Department page for this scholarship.)

Thank you for your submissions for the 2009 Scholarship Competition, the next competition will be available in Spring 2010.

The May 4th Task Force was founded by Kent State students and victims of the May 4 shootings. Alan Canfora, Robbie Stamps, and Dean Kahler were three of the charter members. The Task Force to tell the truth about what happened on May of 1970 has not yet been told and that the  the tragedy should be part of a continuous and living history.

Since 1975 it has been the purpose of the M4TF to raise the level of awareness of students, faculty and the general public about the May 1970 shootings and the history of subsequent related events.
