TECHNOLOGY


          The University is committed to providing students, faculty,
     and staff with up-to-date computing resources and communications
     support for instructional programs, research, and administrative
     operations.  Continuing advances in data and communications technology
     require a persistent effort to maintain an adequate base of equipment and
     staff knowledgeable in its use.  Therefore, upgrading the University's
     technological infrastructure will be a priority.
     
          In the area of academic and administrative systems, specific
     attention will be given to the following:
     
                   Implementation of a University-wide student
                         information system that provides students with
                         access to general information about the University
                         and specific information from their own records and
                         enhances general administration and sharing of data
                         among all eight campuses.
     
                   Technical support and leadership for the
                         development of an interactive distance learning
                         center.
     
                   Broader access for department heads and deans to
                         information in financial and human resources data
                         bases.
     
                   Further development of hands-on hardware and
                         software training for faculty, staff, and students.
     
                   Establishment of a Technology Policy
                         Advisory Committee with faculty and staff
                         representatives to assist in keeping abreast of
                         technological developments.
