New
Courses in Anthropology
A
new course is The Archaeology of Death and
Mortuary Practices, (ANTH 48225), an upper division
course that examines the connections between the living
and the dead as they pertain to rites and rituals
of grieving, funeral, memorialization, and ancestor
worship. The course includes not only a cross-cultural
examination of such practices, but also a project
involving the primary analysis & interpretation of
mortuary data from an ancient cemetery.
An
archaeological field school will be offered in the
Summer of 2007. This will be offered locally and will
involve the instruction of archaeological and forensic
techniques. Dr. Linda Spurlock will be the
instructor.
