The dentition of the Green River Archaic populations of the Midwest ca. 3000 B.C. provide some of the most excessively worn teeth in human history. By the third decade of life, many individuals had outlived their chewing equipment. Here all of the enamel is worn from the surface of the first molar, and the second molar is worn flat. Dr. Richard Meindl has studied the health and population dynamics of this interesting group in detail. Image: R. Meindl |
