Dr. Carol A. Cartwright, President
Kent State University
P.O. Box 5190
Kent, OH 44242-0001

Dew President Cartwright:

I am pleased to inform you that Kent State University has been accepted as a participant in our Academic Quality Improvement Project (AQIP). The AQIP Application Review Panel made this decision following the protocols established for AQIP and approved by the Board of Trustees of the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Now I ask you to sign the enclosed agreement, which contains the core commitments involved in the AQIP relationship:

  • Your current accreditation status has been extended to 2007-2008.
  • Following successful completion of cycles of Strategy Forum and Quality Review, in 2007-2008 your accreditation status will be extended for another seven years.
  • You will participate in an AQIP Strategy Forum within the next year, on a schedule determined in consultation with the AQIP staff.
  • You will engage in a comprehensive AQIP Quality Review three years after the Forum.
  • If either you or AQIP determines that your participation in AQIP is not effective, you will return to the Commission's accreditation processes.
  • Like all institutions participating in AQIP, you will continue to follow the Commission's policies on institutional change.

The Board of Trustees and the staff of the Commission join Dr. Stephen Spangehl, Director of AQIP, and his staff in welcoming you to this important initiative in accreditation practice. The AQIP staff will function as your primary liaison with the Commission, but all of our staff are anxious to serve you, and you can call upon any of us freely. I am confident that you will find everyone connected with AQIP committed to making this new initiative succeed, anxious to work collaboratively with you to help your institution attain and exceed the goals it sets for itself.
