Art Education Class, 2005

Degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate level are offered in all four divisions of the School:

- The division of Art Education offers the BA and MA degrees, with two options in the MA program.

- The division of Art History offers the BA and MA degrees, with a thesis for the MA.

- The division of Crafts offers both BFA and BA degrees and both MFA and MA degrees.

- The division of Fine Art offers the BFA and MFA as well as the BA and MA degrees.

Each program is described more fully on the pages devoted to each division, on the left.

BA degrees are considered general degrees and offer a wide range of choices, including opportunity for a minor.  The BA degree is offered in all four divisions of the School of Art.

BFA degrees are considered professional degrees and are required for further (graduate) study in a studio field, such as those in the divisions of Fine Art and Crafts.

Coordinators in each of the four divisions can help you to identify an undergraduate advisor; contact them directly.

The MFA degree is a professional degree and is currently the terminal (final/highest) degree to be obtained in the visual arts studio areas, such as those in our crafts and fine art divisions.

The MA degree in Crafts or Fine Art is a general, liberal arts master's degree which may be used to satisfy professional development requirements in a range of fields.

The MA degree in Art History can lead to further graduate (Ph.D) study or to a range of careers in the visual arts.

The MA degree in Art Education is a professional degree which may be used to satisfy professional development requirements in education or lead to further graduate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) study.

Graduate Coordinator Janice Lessman-Moss assists graduate students with general questions and advice on scheduling thesis defense and other related deadlines.  Each graduate student chooses a faculty advisor to consult with on matters of medium and content.
