The School of Art at Kent State University offers a long tradition of imagination, thought, skill, and achievement in the visual arts. For its students, both current and future, its alumni and its many friends, the School of Art continues to explore ideas, provide the highest standards of craft, and stimulate individual and collective creativity through its programs, curriculum, and exhibitions.

On this site, you can find current program information, a listing of current events, and ways to contact faculty and staff.

You can also see work by our fine art and crafts faculties and students, find descriptions of degrees in art education, fine arts, crafts, and art history, and learn more about current exhibitions in our galleries. Alumni and emeriti will also find listings of activities to keep you plugged into the ongoing life of the School.

For transfer advising: Please bring unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.

For currently enrolled students, please print out your KAPS report and bring, along with your advising folder or portfolio.

For students with portfolios to evaluate:  Please bring a representative selection of at least a dozen of your strongest works.

School of Art printmaking alumnus and recipient of a KSU Doctor of Humane Letters degree at the 10 May, 2008, commencement ceremony!  Notice of this award also appeared in the Chronicle of Higher Education on 23 May, page A6.

Mercer Forms, an exhibition of work donated by celebrated ceramist Toshiko Takaezu to the School of Art in recognition of the contributions of Professor Kirk Mangus and Adjunct Professor Eva Kwong, of the ceramics program at KSU, opened on 27 May in the Michener Gallery on the second floor of the KSU Library. The exhibition continues through 24 October, 2008.

CONGRATULATIONS to
emeritus Professor (Glass program) Henry Halem who on Thursday, 19 June, received the lifetime achievement award from the international Glass Art Society (GAS), meeting in Portland, OR.

Professor Gianna Commito has work in the exhibition "Union Square," at Taxter and Spengemann, 504 W. 22d St., NY, from 7 July through 1 August.


The fourth annual "19" invitational exhibition at Asterisk Gallery opens this Friday, 11 July, from 6-11pm. The exhibition, curated by former KSU student Dana Depew, includes professor of sculpture Isabel Farnsworth and emeritus professor of painting Craig Lucas.

Professor Michael Loderstedt and multiple Dresden artist-colleagues invite you to the vernissage of Landings at the Alte Feurewache in Loschwitz (Dresden) on 4 August at 8pm.  The exhibition, which runs through 31 August, includes prints, sculpture, photos and artist books and culminates a five-year investigation into America's earliest colonial sites.
