Students with AP scores of 4 or 5 on the Art examination may receive credit if they complete a successful portfolio review. Portfolio reviews are scheduled regularly throughout the semester and over the summer; our welcome page contains a listing of the current schedule.   We suggest that you wait til you have most of your senior year's work to show before scheduling a formal portfolio review.

The School of Art offers a limited number of scholarships for incoming art majors - the Scholastic Art Award is made through the competitive high school competiton held each January on the Stark Campus of KSU.

In addition, the School of Art awards enrolled students scholarships from the general scholarship fund each year. Dates for submission of materials for competition are announced each semester and awards made to enrolled students at any undergraduate level

For additional scholarships and awards available through the School of Art, link to the Office of Student Financial Aid...

Art majors who also enroll in the Honors College (qualifying by meeting certain grade and ACT/SAT criteria) may apply for the Creative Artist Awards.  If you have not yet received a letter from the Honors College and believe you qualify, contact Mrs. Deborah Craig in Honors.

Transfer Students

Students transferring from another institution should first of all be sure that an official transcript of their college work has been sent directly to the Kent State University Admissions Office.

Then students should arrange for an advising consultation, bringing an unofficial transcript and any other paperwork relevant to work completed outside of Kent State University. A portfolio review may also be needed to determine where, in the sequence of foundation courses, the student has already met articulated goals and where further coursework should begin.

During each semester and over the summer, regular drop-in advising times in the School are offered to assist you in learning about transfer possibilities.   Check information on our welcome page for details on how to take advantage of this important assist.
