Josef Gingold Award Endowment
In 1992 the Josef Gingold Award was established to honor the former Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster's 23-year affiliation with Kent/Blossom Music. This cash award is given each summer to an outstanding violinist to help defray the cost of attending Kent/Blossom Music.
John Mack Endowment
Upon John Mack's retirement after 36 seasons as principal oboe of The Cleveland Orchestra, K/BM embarked on the establishment of the John Mack Scholarship Endowment. Mack's tireless efforts as a founding member of the Blossom faculty and his consummate artistry have won him acclaim from around the world. This endowment will ensure that his teaching and performance legacy will provide for wind students at the festival.
Louis Lane Endowment
When Kent State University and The Cleveland Orchestra joined forces to establish a summer professional training program, it was the orchestra's resident conductor Louis Lane who stepped forward to guide the program to what has become a distinguished musical legacy. As the co-director of the program, Mr. Lane attended to every aspect of the enterprise. His design, predicated on his belief in and understanding of the chamber music experience as an essential path to advanced musicianship, remains to this day.
Bernard Goldschmidt Endowment
This endowment honors Bernard Goldschmidt, former Cleveland Orchestra principal second violinist from 1964-1995. Mr. Goldschmidt was a founder and long-time faculty member of Kent/Blossom Music. This scholarship ensures that the most promising young string artists can continue to enjoy the Blossom experience well into the next century.
Maurice Sharp Endowment
Mr. Sharp was an original founding artist faculty member of Kent/Blossom Music in 1968, and we cannot underestimate his impact, not only as a performer but also as an educator. Mr. Sharp served as principal flutist with The Cleveland Orchestra from 1946-1982. During that time he also served as a chamber music coach, flute teacher and mentor to hundreds of students during his 15 years at Kent/Blossom Music. The generosity of those that have supported this endowment will help to continue his impressive legacy.
