Handbook
First Time Student Workers
Welcome all Kent State University student employees. The following guidelines
are intended to assist you as a new employee here at Kent State University.
If you are unable to find an answer on our Student
Employment Services page, please contact the Career Services Center
at (330) 672-2360 or visit us in room 261 of the Michael Schwartz Center,
Monday through Friday from 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. We also encourage you to
review the Student Employment Handbook
for further helpful information. We wish you continued success here at Kent
State.
- Prior to beginning your first day of work, you need to complete
the necessary paperwork to ensure you are paid accurately and promptly.
In order to complete the paperwork in the Career Services Center, you
will need to bring with you proper identification. Please view the list of acceptable documents prior to visiting the Career Services Center.

job, when and how paychecks are distributed, how to make the most of your
student employment experience, and much more!
Dress Code: We encourage you to review the dress code guidelines
prior to your first day of work with your new supervisor. Dress code requirements
may vary depending upon the office with which you are employed.
Absences: Notify your supervisor in a timely manner whenever
it is necessary to be absent from work. Students should establish a record
of their supervisor's name and phone number for this purpose.
Adhere to Policies: Abide by the policies and guidelines of
your employing department and observe appropriate workplace behaviors.
Remember, you represent your department's interests to other students,
faculty, and visitors to the University.
Perform Work Duties: You should learn through departmental training
and your own initiative the responsibilities required of your position
and satisfactorily perform these job duties. In most departments you will
receive periodic evaluations regarding your work performance. Your supervisor
may even recommend a pay raise based on your level of performance and
become a valuable source for letters of reference upon graduation.
Maintain Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality regarding
workplace issues and information including, but not limited to, releasing
or sharing information about other students. You should not remove files
or other materials from the workplace.
- Follow Safety Rules: Follow all departmental and campus rules
concerning safety. Safety is paramount at every campus work site.
