Where is the Student Employment Office Located?
Student Employment is located in the Career Services Center, 261
Michael Schwartz Center, directly above the Admissions Office. Hours of operation
are Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. Inquiries can be directed to
our office at (330) 672-2360.
When do I receive my first paycheck?
Providing your employer submits your completed Student Appointment
Form to the Career Services Center before you begin work and your timecard
to the Payroll Office, it generally takes three to four weeks after the first
day worked in a position on campus to receive a paycheck. Click
here to view the KSU paycheck calendar.
Where do I pick up my paycheck?
You must check with your supervisor to learn your department's
policy on student employee paycheck distribution.
Each department determines where paychecks will be available for pick-up
by their student employees and assigns a check distribution code on each
student appointment form. Some departments pick up student paychecks and
distribute them in their department.
Other departments prefer that student employees who are paid on an hourly
basis pick up paychecks at the Student Credit Union in the Kent Student
Center, and that student employees paid on a non-hourly basis pick
up paychecks at the Bursar's Office.
Student employees may sign up for Direct Deposit, by contacting the Payroll
Office at (330) 672-2637, 236 Michael Schwartz Center.
How do I change my address?
In order to change your address for student employment and payroll
purposes, you must submit your request in writing to the Student Employment
Office (261 Michael Schwartz Center). Be certain to include your name, social
security number, and new address. Or, you may print out the PDF address
change form and submit it to the Student Employment Office. To update
your address with the University Registrar, access the address change portion
of Web For Students.
Where do I obtain my W-2 form for tax filing purposes?
If you worked on-campus in the previous year, you should expect
to receive a W-2 form in the mail if your payroll checks were distributed
through the Student Credit Union. If your payroll checks were distributed
from the office in which you were employed, they will distribute your W-2
form to you.
Any student who has lost their W-2 or requires a replacement W-2, please
contact the Payroll Office (236 Michael Schwartz Center) at 330-672-2637
or payroll@kent.edu to obtain another
copy.
If you have completed an address change on Web for Students, please remember
to also complete an address change form with the Student Employment Office
(261 Michael Schwartz Center). The address on file with the Student Employment
Office is where all of your payroll-related information will be sent. You
may download a Student Employment address change form
and fax it to 330-672-2057.
What happens if I lose or do not receive my timecard?
If you lose or do not receive a timecard, please contact your supervisor
immediately. Your supervisor should then contact the Career Services Center
to request that a duplicate timecard be mailed to the department.
How many credit hours must I be enrolled in to work
on campus during fall and spring semesters?
Undergraduate students must be enrolled in and maintain a minimum
of six (6) credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in and maintain
a minimum of four (4) credit hours. Summer employment requires enrollment
in the previous spring and following fall semesters unless you are graduating
in August or will be a new student in the fall.
What is the difference between a University Funded
position and a Federal Work-Study position?
A University Funded position means your employer pays 100% of your
salary. A Federal Work-Study position means your employer pays 25% of your
salary and the rest comes from your Federal Work-Study award. Questions about
Federal Work-Study eligibility should be directed to the Student Financial
Aid Office at (330) 672-2972.
How do I request a refund of my PERS contributions?
Upon termination of covered public employment in Ohio, you may apply
for and receive your accumulated PERS savings. State law requires a three-month
waiting period before a refund may be paid. Students should contact the Payroll
Office at (330) 672-2637, 236 Michael Schwartz Center for further details
regarding completion of the Application for Refund of Accumulated Contributions.
How many hours per week can I work?
Students in both University Funded and Federal Work-Study positions
should always strive to find a successful balance between work, school, and
other commitments. Students in Federal Work-Study positions have their weekly
work hour limits determined by the amount of their Work-Study award. It is
recommended that full-time students work no more than 30 hours per week while
school is in session. International students can work no more than 20 hours
per week while school is in session.
How do I calculate my weekly work hours so that
I do not exceed my federal work-study award amount?
Federal Work-Study Suggested Weekly
Work Hours
Hours are based on Minimum Wage ($5.15) over a 32-week Academic
Year.
(Example: $1,800/$5.15 per hour=349 hours, 349 hours/32 weeks=11 hours
per week.)
