Dear Student Employment Supervisors
Greetings once again from the Career Services Center! We hope all is well
with you and your student employee/s. We would like to take this opportunity
to remind you that your student employees can take advantage of direct
deposit and its many benefits! With direct deposit, students don't have to search
out their check, find a ride to the bank, or wait in long lines to cash their
check!
Signing up for direct deposit is as easy as completing a direct deposit
form and providing a voided check (for direct deposit into checking)
in either Career Services Center or the Payroll Department, both of which
are located in the Michael Schwartz Center. Or, your students can download
the direct deposit form at http://www.kent.edu/comptroller/Payroll/direct
deposit/index.cfm, fill it out, and send it to Payroll without ever having
to make a trip to Michael Schwartz. The "Download..." link is
in blue at the bottom of the page.
If you or your student/s have any questions, please feel free to contact
Payroll at 672-2637 or Student Employment at 672-2360.
Thank you for your ongoing support of student employment at Kent State University.
Dear Student Employment Supervisors-
Greetings from the Career Services Center. We hope the fall semester is going well for you and your student employee/s. As a student employee supervisor, you have an important responsibility in ensuring that the students of Kent State have a quality employment experience. It is the goal of the Career Services Center to support you in your supervisory role. To that end, we will be sending periodic email messages that will include important reminders and helpful hints for supervisors.
The topic for this message is international students and we have two items that we need your help with. The first involves limitations for part-time employment. The Immigration and Naturalization Service has limited part-time employment for international students to no more than 20 hours per week during the semester. Allowing an international student to work more than 20 hours per week could have serious implications for the student and the university.
The second involves the spelling of names, particularly for those students whose native language uses a different alphabet than we in the USA (for example, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, etc.). In the very near future, immigration databases will be linked to security, law enforcement, labor, social security, and taxation databases, and when this occurs, all personal identification fields must match. Therefore, we need your help in asking your international student employee/s to confirm the Latin alphabet (English) spelling of their names on their employment documents and on SIS. All Latin alphabet spellings must match the Latin alphabet version in the passport. If changes need to be made, please direct the student to the International Student & Scholar Services office for assistance.
Please feel free to contact Marijean (28378) or Julie (29953) if you have any questions.
Thank you for your ongoing support of student employment at Kent State University.
Dear Student Employment Supervisors-
Greetings once again from the Career Services Center. We hope all is well with you and your student employee/s. As we go through our busy days, it is important to remember that student employees rely on us in a variety of ways - for leadership, valuable work experience, and to get paid!
The topic for this message is timecards. As you know, timecards are extremely important as they serve as one of the means for generating a paycheck for student employees. Timely processing of student timecards ensures that students are paid bi-weekly. Please remember that timecards are due in the Payroll Office on Tuesday following each work week. Timecards received after Tuesday prevents students from being paid. If timecards are delivered in person to the Payroll Office, delivery must be done by a staff member - timecards delivered by students will not be accepted.
Also, if your department does not receive a timecard for a student, please remember to contact the Student Employment staff in the Career Services Center immediately (2360). Timely notification will allow the Student Employment staff to generate a new timecard overnight. Please do not wait until timecards are due to contact Student Employment - at that point, it may be too late and the student will not be paid.
Please feel free to contact Marijean (28378) or Julie (29953) if you have any questions.
Thank you for your ongoing support of student employment at Kent State University.
Dear Student Employment Supervisors-
As the new semester begins, I wanted to remind all departments that may have jobs posted on the Career Services web site to check that the job availability dates are accurate. If the start date of a job posting is over a month old, students are usually reluctant to contact a department and assume that the position is already filled. So, please take a few moments and review your department's job posting to make any necessary updates. If you have forgotten or misplaced your password or user id, please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to assist you.
For those of you who have a student employment position to fill for spring semester, I encourage you to utilize our job posting page http://dept.kent.edu/career/stu_services/ffsplash.cfm
Kent State students are aware that this is the primary source for job postings and will look to the web site first when searching for employment on campus.
Dear Student Employment Supervisors-
Greetings once again from the Career Services Center. We hope all is well with you and your student employee/s. We are busy preparing for the annual Student Employee of the Year event that is scheduled to take place during Student Employee Appreciation Week - April 14 - 18, 2003.
Student Employee Appreciation Week provides the university the opportunity to publicly thank our student employees for all that they do. Please take advantage of this opportunity and do something special for your student employees. If you are looking for ideas, take a minute to preview the latest addition to our web site: "Student Employee Recognition Ideas." You'll find a number of easy, inexpensive ways to show your appreciation to your student employees.
You might also consider placing an ad in the Student Appreciation section of the Daily Kent Stater, who is offering a reduced advertising rate for this edition. Simply contact The Stater at 2-2586 or dksads@kent.edu to place your ad. This special edition is scheduled to print on April 3, but you need to contact them by Thursday, March 20.
It's not too late to contribute to the Student Employee of the Year Award. If your department would like to donate a door prize or provide monetary support to this special recognition event, please contact Marijean (28378) or Julie (29953). As always, your support is greatly appreciated.
Best wishes as you celebrate Student Employee Appreciation Week and thank you for your ongoing support of student employment at Kent State University.
