Kent, Ohio is a city of about 30,000 that is located 35 miles southeast of Cleveland and 12 miles east of Akron in a peaceful suburban setting. Kent offers the cultural advantages of a major metropolitan complex as well as the relaxed pace of semirural living. There are a number theater, dance and art groups at the University and in the community. Blossom Music Center, the summer home of the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra and the site of Kent State University’s cooperative program in visual art, music and theater, is only 15 miles from the campus. The Cleveland and Akron art museums are also nearby. Professional sports in Cleveland (Indians baseball, Browns football and Cavaliers basketball) and Akron (Aeros baseball) are also within easy reach of the University. There are a wide variety of recreational facilities available on the campus and within the local area, including West Branch State Park, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and numerous golf courses. Opportunities for outdoor activities such as swimming and other summer sports, ice-skating (year round), downhill and cross-country skiing abound.
