Graduate Programs The Department of Chemistry offers programs leading to the Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science and Master of Arts degrees. The graduate faculty are distributed in five sub-disciplines (divisions): analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry. However, many faculty conduct interdisciplinary research bridging on or more of these traditional areas. New students select a division and research advisor before the end of the first semester. Thesis (M.S.) and Dissertation (Ph.D.) research opportunities are considerably diverse but are mainly in the interdisciplinary areas of Biological Chemistry, Materials Chemistry and Spectroscopy. The department is well equipped with a broad variety of state-of-the-art instrumentation to conduct graduate research. The Chemistry-Physics Library, computer resources and virtually all other research services are in Williams Hall or a directly connected building. Excellent research interactions exist between our graduate faculty and those in the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Liquid Crystal Institute. Further details are found under Ph.D. Program, M.S. Program and M.A. Program.
