Biological Chemistry Concentration B.S. Degree:

This concentration provides an excellent terminal degree for employment in areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, and many other life sciences. However, a major goal of this program is to prepare students for training beyond the bachelor's degree for professional careers in medicine and dentistry in addition to graduate studies in biochemistry, molecular biology, and other cognate sciences. A major in chemistry with a balanced mix of biology and biochemistry courses is one of the strongest combinations for admission and success in medical school.

Required courses in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and physics were chosen primarily to meet the specific requirements of pre-medicine students as well as potential graduate students in biochemistry or other life sciences. This program of study agrees with that recommended by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for an undergraduate degree in biochemistry, and also offers exposure to several additional areas of chemistry and biology.
