This sample program has 37 hours of electives classes, of which 15 are upper-division (UD). You may take more than 15 hours of upper division electives if you so choose.

Two strategies we recommend highly for career reasons are:

1.  Invest at least 6 hours of your electives in additional upper-division foreign-language classes.

2.  Invest 18 hours of your electives in the minor program in International Business. This suggestion is aimed at those who have an interest in pursuing a career in business.

Many variants to this sample program are possible. Because of the number of possible variants, we believe that it is essential for all International Relations majors to seek frequent advising. Our recommendation is that you seek advising at least once per semester when registering for the following semester's classes and ideally more frequently.

When reviewing the sample curriculum note the following social science, writing intensive course and diversity requirements.

Social Sciences: This sample program only shows one of the four normally-required LER courses in the Social Sciences category. That is because as an International Relations major three of your required classes (Economics 22020, and 22061, and either Political Science 10004 or 10500) will also be used to fulfill the LER Social Sciences requirement.

Writing Intensive Course Requirement: Most International Relation students opt to take Economics 42075 for their upper-division economics class; that course also fulfills the writing-intensive requirement of the Liberal Education Requirements.

Diversity Requirement: Students should exercise care in selecting their LER courses from the Humanities and Fine Arts, and Social Sciences sections to insure that they simultaneously meet the Diversity requirement.
