FLASHFACTS
Motivating Others
- Everyone is motivated by different needs. Find out what motivates the members of your organization and use that approach.
- Create circumstances under which members will want to work. By creating a positive atmosphere, members will be encouraged to perform.
- Ask for advice from those you are trying to motivate. People support a plan or program which they have helped to develop. If a member suggests something that the leaders have already thought of, don’t disregard that person instead tell them that it's a good idea.
- Share important information. Make members feel included by sharing important information with them.
- Find out what a member does well and praise them for it. Place members in a position that they excel at, then recognize them for work they do.
- Don't tell members what to do. Tell members the goal and let them work it out in their own way. It may not be your way, but that doesn't mean it's wrong.
- Be enthusiastic. If you are enjoying what you do, it will transfer to others in your group and everyone will be better motivated.
- Be approachable, available and interested. Be there for your members in case any questions arise. When members feel that they can approach you with questions, they will be able to do better work for you.
