Recognition

  1. Recognize individuals frequently. Don't wait until individuals make big accomplishments, recognize them for their effort. This will encourage members to continue their effort.
  2. The most powerful motivator is immediate recognition. When individuals receive immediate positive feedback, they are more likely to continue their effort on future projects.
  3. Cater the recognition to the individuals preference. If a person is shy, try a more personal approach, such as taking them out to lunch or giving them flowers. If a person is more outgoing, then recognize them in public at a meeting or in the newspaper.
  4. Link recognition to achievement. Make sure to state why the recognition is being given to ensure repeat behavior.
  5. Be fair. Make sure that all employees have equal opportunities to perform. Also, make sure that recognition is appropriate and equivalent to the accomplishment.
  6. Remember to say thank you. Including positive reinforcement everyday by saying thank you for the little things will result in a better performance and happier group members
