FLASHFACTS
Recognition
- Recognize individuals frequently. Don't wait until individuals make big accomplishments, recognize them for their effort. This will encourage members to continue their effort.
- The most powerful motivator is immediate recognition. When individuals receive immediate positive feedback, they are more likely to continue their effort on future projects.
- Cater the recognition to the individuals preference. If a person is shy, try a more personal approach, such as taking them out to lunch or giving them flowers. If a person is more outgoing, then recognize them in public at a meeting or in the newspaper.
- Link recognition to achievement. Make sure to state why the recognition is being given to ensure repeat behavior.
- Be fair. Make sure that all employees have equal opportunities to perform. Also, make sure that recognition is appropriate and equivalent to the accomplishment.
- Remember to say thank you. Including positive reinforcement everyday by saying thank you for the little things will result in a better performance and happier group members
