Mission
There is a line from Hannah Arendt that captures our mission at the Writing Center:
For excellence, the presence of others is always required.
It is our hope at the Writing Center that those who come to discuss their writing with us
will find that we enjoy engaging in the writing process with them. We invite students to
bring in their assignments and drafts and to expect that we are always open to a
discussion of their questions and to assist them at any stage in the writing process.

Quick Notes
What are sessions like?
Sessions last up to 45 minutes. Students in Intro to College English, ENG 10000, have the option of a double session. This provides them with feedback from both a tutor and one of their peers. Single sessions are held with one tutor and one student working closely on a piece of work. These sessions are often reserved for students in 10002 or above. Sessions are limited to one per day and two per week.
 |
Tutors will: help you understand assignments, explain how to write an academic paper, and help you start your writing assignment.
|
 |
Tutors won't: write on your paper, write passages for your paper, or tell you specific details to add (or delete) from your paper.
|
What should I bring with me?
You are not required to bring a draft, but we encourage you to do so. Bring a description of your assignment, notes, earlier drafts, and (if possible) instructor's written feedback.

Online Writing Lab (OWL)
Before we can work with you online, you must make
an appointment. You can do this either by coming in person to the Writing Center
or by calling (330) 672-1787.
In order to effectively aid you with your
revision, your tutor will need some information about your paper and at least
two questions you have about your text. You are responsible for e-mailing your
paper to the OWL prior to your scheduled appointment time. This will ensure that
your tutor has your paper at hand when your appointment is scheduled to start.
The OWL will accept files by
e-mail attachment in the most current versions
of Microsoft Word format and will utilize Word's comment function.
