Plagiarism

·        Explanation (this is not an official definition). In the United States, you will be accused of PLAGIARISM if you use other people's words and ideas without acknowledging their original source (i.e., author). In many other countries, unrecognized use of other people’s words and ideas is considered to be OK at school. It is NOT the case in the United States. In the US, you will suffer serious consequences if you are accused of plagiarism (e.g., you may be expelled from an American university). For this reason, please make sure that you ACKNOWLEDGE the use of other people's thoughts. To understand better what PLAGIARISM means, please go to the following website and read through the examples of what is considered to be plagiarism, and what is not: (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/research/r_plagiar.html)
