Fashion Design Major
Admission Criteria:
- Incoming Freshmen:
- Minimum High School GPA of 2.75
- Minimum ACT 21 and/or SAT 980
- Students with a High School GPA of 3.0 or higher but do not meet the ACT/SAT score requirement will be considered on an individual basis
- Transfer Students:
- 24 earned, non-remedial credit hours at an accredited college or university
- And minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Transfer Students with less than 24 earned credit hours from an accredited college or university will be admitted under “incoming freshmen” criteria.
- Current Kent Students Changing Major:
- 12 earned, non-remedial credit hours at Kent State University
- And a cumulative GPA of 2.50
Non-Academic Admission Requirements:
- All applicants to the Fashion Design major must submit a skills assessment to be evaluated by faculty
- Please do NOT send additional information to the skills assessment. To keep the review process fair additional artwork, letters of recommendation, etc. will not be considered.
Admission Timeline:
- The Fashion School admits students on a rolling basis corresponding with the University’s Admissions calendar.
- Application to the University and submission of the skills assessment should be concurrent.
- Students may indicate the Conceptual Track or the Technical Track at any point; however, a change of track after freshman year may require additional coursework. View Track Descriptions
Note:
- Students who do not meet the above admission criteria may be admitted to the university as Fashion Preparatory majors (PFDM) and declare the Fashion Design major after:
- Submitting a skills assessment that is approved/accepted by faculty
- Completing 12 credit hours of non-developmental coursework at Kent State University
- Or after completing one year of non-developmental coursework at another accredited college or university
- And establishing a cumulative GPA of 2.50
- Fashion Design requires eight semesters of study; students admitted to the Fashion Design program can expect four years of study from the time they begin major coursework.
