Judy Raymond, Vice President Simplicity Pattern Company looks
at the plans for the upcoming Simplicity Pattern book that will
feature the work of Kent State students. Each year Simplicity
funds a project in the school where students compete to have their
work selected for a Simplicity pattern. The student receives a
scholarship and a funded trip to New York as well as having his/her
name on the pattern envelope. This project commenced in 1997 and
has continued on an annual basis.
"One
of the things the competition does does for us is it keeps us
tuned in to what young designers are thinking about. Through their
submission of design, we learn a lot about the trends they're
spotting verses the trends we're spotting."
