Brage and Hinda Golding Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1992
Brage Golding was the president of
Kent
State
University
at the time that Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman approached
the university to create The Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman
School of Fashion Design and Merchandising. The Chestnut Society,
who supports major university programs in the arts, generously
donated the funds for a scholarship in Dr. Golding’s honor. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates
academic achievement as well as financial need. The recipient
must be a full-time students and seniors
must have one remaining semester.

Higbee
Endowed Scholarship
Established
in 1987
The
Higbee Company had its headquarters
in Cleveland
at the time The Fashion School was established. The
company sold Shannon Rodgers for Jerry Silverman garments
and a close relationship existed between Shannon Rodgers
and Jerry Silverman and Higbee executives. This relationship continued long
after the company was no longer in existence.
The scholarship
is awarded to a student who exhibits outstanding academic
achievement, strong extracurricular involvement, and evidence
of firm commitment to fashion merchandising.

Irene
Jaffe Bachman Endowed Scholarship
Established
in 2005
Irene
Jaffe Bachman grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where her love
of fashion led to multiple fashion-related careers from
modeling to buying to fashion consultant. This scholarship
was established in honor of her years of hard work, dedication
and fashion inspiration.
Awarded
to a student who has demonstrated outstanding performance
and potential as a design or merchandising student.

Janet
McCue Endowed Scholarship
Established
in 2000
Janet
McCue was the Fashion Editor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Upon her retirement the Plain Dealer established this endowment
in her honor.
The endowment
goes to a full time student in design or merchandising whom
the faculty feel has exemplary
talents and commitment to the field of fashion.

JCPenney
Endowed Scholarship
Established
in 1996
JCPenney
is a 100-year-old national retailer. A strong industry
linkage between The Penney Company and The Fashion School
has long existed. Students have done internships at
corporate and in stores nationwide and the company also
sponsors an industry project for classroom activities.
To further
support fashion education the Penney Company established
this endowment for a merchandising student with strong academic
performance, good faculty recommendations, demonstration
of leadership on campus and in the community, and a student
who demonstrates motivation, character, ability and potential
to be successful in the field of fashion merchandising.

Jim
and Nancy Arthur Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1997
Jim and
Nancy Arthur are entrepreneurs in Kent
, Ohio . They have
major real estate holdings in the city and also have operated
a retail business (The Works) for over two decades.
Many fashion students have worked for them at their retail
store. They are supporters of the university and of
The Fashion School.

Lane Bryant, a division of Charming Shoppes,
Inc., a family of retail apparel companies, serving the
fashion needs of women in her many roles and lifestyles.
The company has representation on The Fashion School Advisory
Board and created this scholarship in support of the school
and its students. The first award will be given in
Spring 2004.

Margaret
and Thomas Catalano Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1990
The Catalano's
held significant roles in the fashion industry and were contemporaries
and friends with Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman. They
created this scholarship to benefit the future generation
going into the industry. It is to be awarded to a student
to subsidize a school approved internship in New York or travel
costs for a study tour.

Mario
Nolfi Endowed Scholarship
Established
in 1997
Mario
Nolfi was a fashion business executive
who also taught at The Fashion School at Kent
State .
He was “loved” by all his students. After
his death his family established an endowment to help support
and encourage students interested in the world of fashion.

is awarded for exemplary academic achievement and extracurricular
activities in fashion.

Phillips & Lynn Phillips Manulis Endowed Scholarship
Established
in 1991
Miss
Martha and Miss Lynn were fashion icons. Through this endowment
their names will live on and their presence will encourage
young students to go forward and make their place in the
world of fashion.
The scholarship
is for a full-time student in fashion design or merchandising
who is going to do a school approved internship in New York
the summer or following academic year after the presentation
of the award.

Anderson
Established in 1987
Mary
Elizabeth Elgin Anderson loved fashion and fine clothes.
When she was a child she and her sister,
Mildred Elgin Bumfrey, would play
in the president’s office of the newly established
Georgia Normal College.
They and the president’s children were good friends.
Mr. Anderson set up this scholarship fund in memory of his
wife and her love of fashion.
The scholarship
is awarded for tuition assistance to a student who has exemplary
academic achievement, financial need and professional promise.

fall semester and ten for the spring semester.

Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1991
The Guntons are Cleveland-based
entrepreneurs who knew Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman
and who became instrumental in establishing The Fashion
School through the generous contribution of this scholarship
to support a school approved internship or a fashion study
tour.

SHANNON
RODGERS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Established
in 1988
Friends
of Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman established this
scholarship in their honor and upon Shannon Rodgers' death,
Margaret Clark Morgan made a substantial contribution to
the endowment.
The scholarship
is for a student with strong scholastic performance and
creative ability.

The
Robert Broadbent Endowed Scholarship
Established
in 1985
Robert
Broadbent was the last CEO of the Higbee Company in
Cleveland
.
He is an outstanding entrepreneur and philanthropist and has
supported The Fashion School since its conception. Mr. Broadbent
and Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman were all friends and
worked together in the fashion industry. Mr. Broadbent values
international learning experiences and encourages students to
become aware of the influence and interrelationship of
Asia
on the American fashion industry.
This
scholarship provides approximately $3,000 annually to two
students who will study on an exchange program at
Hong Kong Polytechnic
University .
Each fall two junior students in fashion design or merchandising
are selected by the faculty to study at Hong Kong Polytechnic
the following spring term. The students register at
Kent State
paying the usual tuition to KSU and then attend
HKP. Housing arrangements are made at HKP but
have to be paid for by the student. Airfare and other
expenses are those of the selected student. Courses
are identified at HKP that will be accepted into the KSU
program so that no loss of credit is experienced.
With the supplement of the Broadbent Scholarship a student
should experience a cost factor similar to what tuition,
room, board and living expenses are here at KSU.
The
application for this scholarship is due by
5pm
on the last Friday of September each year.
The application consists of a letter of interest to the director
of The Fashion School accompanied by a 1-2 page essay on why
you want to have this experience and what you would gain professionally
from studying at HKP. The application must be word-processed.
Selection
of the two students for this award will be made in early October
of fall term with attendance at HKP being spring term (late
January through early May).

and Vivian B. Mills Scholarship
