Collegial Development of Teaching Project
(formerly AAHE- KSU Peer Review of Teaching Project)
A project focused on discussion between twelve research universities,
including Kent State University, where scholarly discussions and activities on college teaching techniques,
professional development and pedagogy are explored.
Information
Literacy
Successful teaching and learning requires understanding
of fundamental information literacy standards. This link will take you
to Kent State's Libraries and Media Services' introduction to information
literacy standards, which involves information seeking skills, independent
learning, and social responsibility.
Scholarship of Teaching
Throughout
the academic school year, AAUP and fpdc sponsor workshops that provide an
opportunity for faculty to discuss the scholarship of teaching, and to
engage in documenting and narrating teaching for reappointment, tenure,
and promotion.
Service
Learning
Throughout the academic school year, fpdc sponsors Service Learning
Brown Bag lunches every first Monday of each month. Faculty are
invited to bring their lunch and participate in presentation discussions
led by faculty who use Service Learning as part of their classroom
instruction. All sessions are held at the Faculty Professional
Development Center, Room 217 Moulton Hall from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
University
Teaching Council (UTC)
Among their many responsibilities related to supporting
the scholarship of teaching, the UTC funds teaching and curriculum development
projects and hosts an annual fall teaching conference.
Institute for CyberInformation
Located
in Moulton Hall is an interdisciplinary research center whose mission
includes conducting collaborative research and supporting
university-industry partnerships as they relate to the application and
integration of digital information technologies for knowledge
management. The Institute's current focus is on network publishing
and portable reading devices, such as e-books and tablets. Research
projects involve faculty and students from schools and departments
throughout Kent State's eight-campus network. The institute also
relies on a professional board of advisers comprised of representatives
from public and private organizations as well as from Kent State
University to provide guidance and to help shape its research
agenda.
Research
Center for Educational Technology
The research conducted within RCET takes place in the Ameritech classroom
in Moulton Hall. The center's purpose is to provide a
collegial network for university researchers and preK-16 educators
committed to studying the impact of technology on teaching and learning.
University Research Council (URC)
The URC fosters and stimulates the research mission of
the University by studying and recommending policies respecting research;
recommending priorities for support of research; recommending faculty
research appointments; collecting information on research; and publicizing
research efforts of the University.
Distance
Learning
Located on the third floor in Moulton Hall, the Office of Distributed
Learning is responsible for servicing Kent State University and the
academic community through the development, delivery, and support of
courses delivered over a distance. This currently includes
videoconferencing to the desktop (Learnlinc),
room-based videoconferencing (VTEL),
and asynchronous courses delivered via the World Wide Web.
New
Media Center
The New
Media Center works with FPDC in providing technological and pedagogical
faculty support in teaching, research and service through assistance in
instructional design, video production, graphics production and
programming for new media efforts. The New Media Center promotes
computer literacy and expertise at Kent by providing hands-on group
instruction in personal computer technologies. Particular workshops
include basic software applications such as WebCT
and Dreamweaver.

Collegial Development of Teaching Project

They focus on scholarly discussions and activities on college teaching
techniques, professional development and pedagogy.
Faculty
and Staff Assistance Program
The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is
designed to assist faculty, staff, family members and students employed
by Kent State University with any type of personal problem or concern.
The program provides professional mental health assessment, referral
and short-term counseling services.
The program also assists in
other areas of personal concern such as, but not limited to, substance
abuse, finances, family and marital matters, legal issues,
and self-improvement.
Faculty
Senate
A
organized body of faculty dedicated to supporting the
university in its aim to promote teaching, learning,
advancement of knowledge and public service. The Faculty
Senate helps
define roles and mechanisms for effective participation of
the faculty in the formation and establishment of university
policies and the conduct of university affairs.
Faculty Senate meetings are held on Mondays at 3:20 pm in
the Governance Chambers, second floor, Kent Student Center
unless otherwise noted.
Graduate Student
Senate
They are the advocates for the graduate student body.
They allocate funding for graduate students to travel to conferences,
as well as some funding for recognized graduate departments and
recognized graduate student organizations.
The Honors College
The mission of the Honor College is to recruit, support,
challenge, and encourage honors students. Information on research

Libraries
and Media Services
Libraries
and Media Services is at the center of the University's
intellectual life because we bring together diverse
traditions of thought, belief, and inquiry. As a critical
setting for scholarly inquiry and research, Libraries and
Media Services provides instruction in an academic setting,
research collections of books, journals, and nonprint media,
and instructional support services.

Office of Adult Services
The purpose of the Office of Adult Services is to
facilitate adult students' enrollment and retention to Kent State
University. They provide workshops or seminars for faculty to help
them understand and recognize the difference between mature adult
students and younger college students and how these differences
affect the attitudes and expectations of adults when they come to
the university.

and Graduate Studies (RAGS)
A
division comprised
of three main branches: one that oversees all university
graduate programs, one that handles details concerning all
university research and one responsible for Technology
Transfer and Outreach Coordination.

Center
The mission of the Wellness Center is to support
employees as they increase their knowledge, motivation, confidence
and self-efficacy in their decision-making and behaviors that will
positively affect the quality of their lives now and in the future.
Women's
Resource Center
The Women's Resource Center provides
resources, services and advocacy for the women of Kent State University
and the greater Kent/Portage County community.
