Fall 2001 Moulton Scholars

Peggy Doheny, Associate Professor – College of Nursing
doheny2.jpg (19726 bytes) Peggy is continuing another semester as a Moulton Scholar focusing her efforts in web course design, particularly uploading PowerPoint with sound into her web courses.  She desires to continue learning new web technologies to enhance student interaction in addition to modifying currently developed databases.
Kristi Pretti-Frontczak, Assistant Professor – College of Education
Mvc-020f.jpg (60943 bytes) Kristi has two professional goals she would like to accomplish as a Moulton Scholar: to use technology to improve teaching methods and strengthen strategies for measuring effectiveness of her teaching and to infuse technology standards throughout the early childhood intervention (ECI) curriculum.  To accomplish this, Kristi plans to learn how to use POLIS (The Project for On-line Instructional Support), utilize meeting room software for setting up chat rooms and listservs and incorporate video into PowerPoint presentations.  She also plans to develop and post web-based evaluations, teach graduate students how to measure child outcomes through the use of software programs such as MOOSES, use Webquest as a format for students to access community, text, and Internet resources, and assist other faculty in using PowerPoint effectively and in creating course websites using WebCT or POLIS.

G. Leticia (Lettie) Gonzalez, Assistant Professor – Exercise, Leisure, and Sport
Mvc-018s.jpg (35323 bytes) As a former Teaching Scholar and new Moulton Scholar, Lettie has several goals she would like to accomplish.  First of all, she would like to redesign a course called Organization and Administration of Athletics through the development of a website using WebCT.  In addition, Lettie would like to develop a series of online tutorials to address issues of diversity in the classroom and, through the use of distance learning technology, place more responsibility of learning in the hands of students by creating a variety of electronic communication channels such as email, chat rooms, and bulletin boards.
Rob Heiman ~ Family and Consumer Studies
Mvc-009x.jpg (136632 bytes) Rob continues development and teaching hospitality courses through Distributed Learning.  This semester, his students will be presenting multi-media projects using systems in the Moulton "Teaching Module".  In addition, there will be extensive use of Microsoft and "Food-Trac" software packages throughout the term.  Examination of the uses of this software will be conducted in an "industry simulated" environment.
Ruth Ludwick, Associate Professor – College of Nursing

Ruth & Marion

Ruth continues her work as a Moulton Scholar by refining web courses she’s developed in the past in addition to working on an information literacy in nursing project she started during the spring 2001 semester.  She will also continue expanding her web technology link through a relationship established between KSU’s College of Nursing and the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland.  Marion Wright, a visiting faculty from N. Ireland during the spring 2001 semester, will be visiting again during the fall 2001 semester.  She will be sharing Moulton Scholar space with Ruth during her stay in the States.

Theresa Minick, Coordinator – Modern & Classical Language Studies
Theresa.jpg (29324 bytes) Theresa is working on a collaborative project with Mexico.  They are building a virtual artist community and will be including video and digitized photos of art projects generated by students in the United States and Mexico.
Carol A. Sedlak, Associate Professor – College of Nursing
sedlak.jpg (5825 bytes) Continuing work from past semesters, Carol will be designing web courses for three graduate courses that comprise the Teaching Education Nursing Certificate program.  She will be focusing her work toward learning how best to enhance student active learning and critical thinking through web technology.  Also, Carol plans to develop a database of her graduate student’s clients that contains information on diagnosis and nursing interventions that can be tracked through each clinical nursing course.
Sister Mary Theresa Sharp - Mathematical Sciences 
Sister Theresa.jpg (54371 bytes) Sister Theresa is a Moulton Scholar for two reasons:  to take advantage of the office space and utilize the various technological resources available by way of equipment and people.  She has taught several math courses at the Geauga campus and will continue teaching at the Kent campus.   As part of a summer project, she even taught statistics to high school students by having them create projects based on information they gather during their trips to the Rock-n-roll Hall of Fame!  Sister Theresa will continue working on a computer-related degree while infusing technology into her mathematics coursework.
