Mary
Ann Devine
Biography
Dr. Devine is an Assistant Professor in the school of
Exercise, Leisure, & Sports
Studies. Her background is in
therapeutic recreation that is the use of recreation to improve the
functioning and quality of life for people with disabilities. Dr. Devine's research preference lies in the area of
inclusion of people with disabilities in recreation and leisure programs
and efficacy of recreation organizations in meeting the mandates of the
ADA. Her teaching interests
parallel her research interests in that she teaches a course entitled
Inclusion of People with Disabilities in Leisure Services.
In addition to that course, Dr. Devine teaches several therapeutic
recreation and general leisure studies courses.
Currently, she is directing a project in which she received grant
funding to support two undergraduate research assistants to assist in data
collection and analysis.
Teaching
Project
Dr. Devine plans to enhance her scholarship of teaching
from her participation in the teaching scholars program.
She would like to learn new and exciting teaching methods,
particularly methods that would encourage effective discussions between
she and her students. Dr.
Devine would also like to learn new and varied ways to apply technology in
the classroom to enhance learning. Finally, she would like to part of a community of teaching
scholars who promote innovative ways to support the learning needs of
students.
