My primary interests are in the study of the systematics, evolution, and paleoecology of fossil crabs, lobsters, and shrimps.  This research is based upon extensive field work throughout the world and has now expanded into studies of the ultrastructure of cuticle as a possible means of developing a new dataset for cladistic analysis of the decapods.  I have also guided student research in a variety of other invertebrate fossil groups and trace fossils.
