A number of scholarships are available to geology majors through the Department of Geology. Applications for these are placed on the counter in the Geology main office early in the Spring Semester each year. The recipients of the Outstanding Geology Major and Sigma Gamma Epsilon's W.A. Tarr awards are selected (without application) by the geology faculty and Sigma Gamma Epsilon members, respectively. Details regarding these scholarships and awards are given below:

Glenn W. Frank Geology Scholarship - A monetary award (typically two $2,500 scholarships annually) presented to junior geology majors who demonstrate excellent potential for a successful professional career in geology. 

Donald C. Gifford Scholarship - An award of a $1,250 tuition scholarship presented annually to a junior geology major who demonstrates excellent potential for a successful professional career in geology with an emphasis in the fields of Paleontology, Stratigraphy, or Geophysics.

John Allen Clark Scholarship - A monetary award (typically one or two $300-600 scholarships annually) presented to an academically superior Geology, Biological Sciences, or Geography senior major possessing a professional career interest in natural resource management. 

Outstanding Geology Major Award - A certificate presented to an academically superior geology major who, in the current academic year, obtains the Bachelor of Science degree in geology and who is judged by the faculty to be the outstanding major.

Sigma Gamma Epsilon W.A. Tarr Award - An certificate presented to an academically superior geology graduating senior who has made significant contributions to the department of Geology through Sigma Gamma Epsilon.

Field Camp Scholarships

Several sources of scholarship support are available for Summer Field Camp participants. Awards range from $100 to $1,000 and multiple awards may be given by several of the sponsors.

Geology Field Camp Scholarship - A monetary award presented to academically superior KSU undergraduate geology majors registered for that semester's Summer Field Camp course.

Sigma Gamma Epsilon Glenn Frank Field Camp Scholarship - A monetary award presented to academically superior KSU undergraduate geology majors who are registered for  that semester's Summer Field Camp course. 

Kent State Geological Society Field Camp Scholarship - A monetary award presented to geology majors who demonstrate financial need, are registered for that semester's Summer Field Camp course, and are paid-up members of KSGS.

Emerald Environmental Scholarship - An award of $500 presented to undergraduate geology majors who demonstrate financial need, show potential for a successful professional career in geology, and are registered for that semester's Summer Field Camp course.

Richard A. Heimlich Scholarship - An award of $1,000 presented to undergraduate geology majors who demonstrate financial need, show potential for a successful professional career in geology, and are registered for that semester's Summer Field Camp course.

Donations to any of the scholarship accounts are gratefully accepted. They may be sent to Department of Geology, Kent State University, Kent OH 44242 at any time and will be deposited into the appropriate Foundation Account where they will augment the funds used to award the scholarships.
