Mark Colvin is a professor in the Department of Justice Studies at Kent State University and a research associate with ISPV.  His recent publications investigate the theoretical links between coercion, social support and crime.  He has published three books: The Penitentiary in Crisis (1992), Penitentiaries, Reformatories and Chain Gangs (1997),and Crime and Coercion (2000).  He has also published articles in the journals Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, The Prison Journal, Crime and Delinquency, Sociological Quarterly, American Journal of Sociology, and Social Problems.  He was the winner of the Outstanding Book Award for 2002 from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and co-winner of the Outstanding Scholar Award for 2001 from the Crime and Delinquency Section of the Society for the Study of Social Problems.  He teaches courses on criminological theory, violence, and punishment and corrections.
