Leon is a Graduate Research Assistant for ISPV, assigned to conduct data entry for the Strengthening Communities for Youth (SCY) program, which is a system of care initiative originally funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment to provide treatment services to juvenile offenders with substance abuse problems. Leon also performs data collection, data entry, and field observations related to the Youth Development Initiative program (YDI), which has been designed to engage all young people in their earliest stages of development and connect them to a continuum of services, caring adults and opportunities that will empower them to successfully reach early adulthood and make positive contributions to the community. Prior to coming to ISPV, Leon was a Graduate Research Assistant for the Institute for Health and Social Policy at The University of Akron. While there, he was involved in recoding data for the Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention Study (ASAPS) and also contributed to the collection of data relating to a departmental alumni survey. In December 2008, Leon, will graduate with his Master’s degree in Public Administration and hopes to remain at ISPV as a full time Research assistant.
