Rodney Thomas is a Senior Research Associate at Kent State University’s Institute for the Study and Prevention of Violence. Prior to arriving at the Institute, Rodney was a Senior Research Coordinator for National Health Promotion Associates in White Plains, NY, where he was responsible for directing national, multi-site research studies related to the Life Skills Training prevention program. Rodney has over 15 years of experience managing community- and school-based evaluation projects in Cleveland, the South Bronx, Upper Manhattan, and other parts of New York City. Among other ISPV activities, he is currently working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Ohio on the Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative; and is also working with the Hispanic Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program to evaluate the impact of Project HOPE reentry services on drug-offending Hispanic adolescents. His current areas of interest include: community-based prevention coalition building, offender reentry, youth gangs, and the sustainable translation of evidence-based violence prevention programs to community and school settings. Rodney received his M.A. in Sociology from the Applied Social Research Program at West Virginia University.
