YOUNG ALUMNI CLUB

During her sophomore year at Kent State, Lisa A. Morris volunteered with a group of fellow nursing students from Engleman Hall to call Kent alumni to raise money for the nursing program. Many of the people she talked to were practicing nurses who encouraged her and bolstered her confidence. "I've never forgotten that experience. I felt a connection that I wanted to keep," says Lisa. Since graduating in 1990, Lisa has made a contribution to Kent State each year. Most often, she has designated her gift toward completion of the Linnea E. Henderson Endowed Chair for Nursing Research.

Lisa now lives in Canton, Ohio, and works at the Akron Campus of the Summa Health System. She is a Clinical Informatics Nurse who helps to create computer applications used by the hospital's patient-care nurses. Her own experience as a nurse ensures the programs will be user-friendly.

"At Kent, they always told me I could do anything I wanted to do," Lisa said, adding that this made it easy for her to move beyond the role of a traditional nurse into a relatively new field. "If it wasn't for my parents and Kent State, I wouldn't be where I am today."
