A Message from the President
Kent State University's greatest asset is people. The university is a unique living/learning community of dynamic individuals committed to a common mission of teaching, research, and public service. Our students are diverse and so is our faculty. Whether investigating fossils for clues to our human origins, helping a student learn to draw, or developing new manufacturing techniques in partnership with a corporation, the people of Kent State truly care about our future. This was evident in the lively conversations that took place this year on issues of great importance to the university, as well as in the record number of alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and parents who made charitable contributions to the university.
Throughout 1998-99, people have been at the forefront of positive change and innovation. More than 60 faculty and staff members served on a steering committee to draft a University Strategic Plan that will carry us into the 21st century. Every academic and operating unit across Kent State's eight-campus system was actively involved in providing input for the new plan, which emphasizes a synergistic relationship between our research mission and our commitment to undergraduate learning.
Whether alumni, professors or civic leaders, each has a distinct role to play in ensuring the success of students who come to the university to learn. The role of the Kent State University Foundation is to raise public awareness of the university's financial needs and to link potential donors with people, projects, and programs that spark their personal interest.
Within the pages of this publication, you will find profiles of a wide variety of people. Their reasons for giving are as diverse as the paths taken by our students after they complete their studies. We salute these individuals, corporations, and foundations, and all of those who have shown they care about Kent through their generous support.
