FALL 2009 EDUCATION PROGRAMS

 

All events FREE and open to the public!

 

Our general business meetings will follow each educational program as scheduled,

all are welcome to stay and participate in the planning for the 40th anniversary of the May 4, 1970 events.

 

Friday August 28th – FIND US AT GA “ON-TAP” ORIENTATION

 

Sunday August 30th - FIND US AT BLASTOFF!!!!

 

September 3 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         MAY 4 “101” - Get to know the basics of what happened and some of the people involved.

September 10 – 7pm @ The Victory Bell, KSU Commons

·         SPECIAL GUIDED TOUR OF THE MAY 4 SITE, then join us @ The Hub for a casual get-to-know you.

September 17 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         WHAT GOES INTO THE ANNUAL COMMEMORATION?  How do we plan? Brainstorming about what we should include for the 40th and who to ask!!!

Friday September 18th - FIND US AT BLACK SQUIRELL FEST!!!!

 

September 24 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         WHO WERE THEY?  Personal reflections of the students lost and wounded on May 4, 1970.

October 1 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         PEACE MARSHAL TRAINING!!!!  Let’s get folks trained early and offer our services to other groups!!!!

October 8 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         THE MUSIC OF MAY 4 – Beyond Neil Young, many artists have not only composed tracks related to the events – but also have personal ties to Kent State and its legacy.

October 15 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         KENT STATE @ THE MOVIES

October 22 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         KENT STATE @ THE MOVIES

October 29 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         MAY 4 TASK FORCE TURNS 34!!!!  Join us for a lighter night of CAKE and trivia, editorial cartoons, satire and more as we look back on the role of the Task Force and the impact current students have made in the history of May 4.

November 5 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         MEMORIALS AND MARKERS – Decoding the reminders on campus that relate to May 4.

November 12– 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         MAY 4 AND CURRENT EVENTS – How do the lessons of Kent State apply to the world today?  And why do we have a history of including current events in our programming?

November 19 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         THE MAY 4 COLLECTION @ KSU ARCHIVES – Join our special guest KSU Archivist Stephen Paschen as he shares some treasures from the collection and how to use them!

November 26 – No Meeting / Thanksgiving Break

 

December 3 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         WHAT WAS MUSIC AND SPEECH?  TENT CITY?  BUS WALKOUT? NAPALM THE DOG? – What other events contributed to the legacy of May 4 at Kent State?

December 10 – 7 pm @ May 4 Resource Room, KSU Library, 1st floor.

·         THE LEGAL BATTLES OF MAY 4 – Many of our battles moved from the campus to courtrooms to be addressed by lawyers and judges.  Many KSU students also became lawyers, activists, media and others who continue to make lasting changes on our courts and political systems.
