New York Times Reporter John Kifner returns to KSU

Sept. 13, 2006

Last night New York Times reporter John Kifner returned to Kent State after 36 years.  Kifner was the only national reporter on the campus of Kent State durring the shootings - arriving on Sunday May 3rd.

Mr. Kifner asked to come to campus as part of New York Times' campus speakers program last spring but was reschedualed because he was deployed to cover Beruit.

"KENT 4" reappears on The Commons

Sept. 10, 2006

RETURNED!  1 RED METALLIC SCULPTURE

After several years, the Kent 4 sculpture by Alistair Granville-Jackson has made its reappearance on our campus as silently as it left.

The sculpture was originally located near Bowman, Stopher and the Art Building, but is now visable along the Art Building next to the Commons.
This new location gives a haunting reminder of the loss of individual life on May 4, 1970.

* The Daily Kent Stater, the independent student newspaper at Kent State University is not currently indexed,
n
either is the local newspaper The Record Courier.
We are currently scanning the pages of 35 + years of these papers for related articles via microfilm.
This is obviously a huge undertaking.  Your patience is appreciated.

The May 4th Task Force was founded by Kent State students and victims of the May 4 shootings. Alan Canfora, Robbie Stamps, and Dean Kahler  were three of the charter members. The Task Force felt that the truth about what happened in May of 1970 had yet to be told and that the lessons to be learned from the tragedy should be part of a continuous and living history.

Since 1975 it has been the purpose of the M4TF to raise the level of awareness of students, faculty and the general public about the May 1970 shootings and the history of subsequent related events.
