The Slain: Sandra Lee
Scheuer
(August 11, 1949 -May 4, 1970) Sandra Lee Scheuer was a
full time student at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio when she was
killed by Ohio National Guardsmen on May 4, 1970. This,
coincidentally was also her parents' wedding anniversary. Just after Scheuer's death in 1970, the English songwriter Harvey Andrews composed a song entitled "Hey Sandy", whose lyrics are addressed to her:
Harvey Andrews never
formally released the song in the United States, but allowed it's
inclusion in the Kent State
May 4 CD Project produced by the May 4 Task Force in
2005. Scheuer had been a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and current members of this sorority often participate in the annual commemoration of the 1970 tragedy. References

| The May 4th
Task Force
was founded by Kent State students and victims of the May 4 shootings.
Alan Canfora, Robbie Stamps,
and Dean Kahler were three of the charter members. The Task Force
felt
that the truth about what happened in May of 1970 had yet to be told
and that the lessons to be learned from the tragedy should be part of a
continuous and living history. Since 1975 it has been the purpose of the M4TF to raise the level of awareness of students, faculty and the general public about the May 1970 shootings and the history of subsequent related events. |
