To MCLS Upper-Level Undergraduate and Graduate Students:
We are seeking information on possible candidates to be honored by PHI SIGMA IOTA, the Foreign Language International Honorary Society. New members are to be initiated in April as part of the university’s Honor’s Week.
The primary objectives of PHI SIGMA IOTA are the recognition of remarkable ability and attainments in languages and literatures, the stimulation of advanced work and individual research in this field, and the promotion of a sentiment of amity between our own nation and the nations using these languages. By offering membership, it tries to promote good feelings, high ideals and stimulating relationships. It recognizes achievement and encourages individual efforts by granting annual scholarships, and other awards. Election to PHI SIGMA IOTA is considered the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages and literatures.
Members are selected from outstanding advanced undergraduate students (juniors and seniors), and graduate students pursuing a curriculum with emphasis in foreign language. National dues of $ 35.00 will be due upon your acceptance of an invitation to join. Undergraduate students must: 1) have completed at least 3 semesters of the college course, 2) have completed at least one foreign language course at the third-year level (30000 and above), 3) have at least a B average in all coursework and, 4) be currently enrolled. Graduate students must: 1) have completed at least one full semester at KSU, 2) have the highest degree of competency in at least one foreign language and, 3) have a B+ average in all graduate work and in all courses in the foreign language.
