Individual Biographies
IVAN
CHAN,
Ivan Chan bronze medalist of the 1990 Indianapolis International Violin Competition, received his education
at the Curtis Institute of Music and
Indiana University. His principal teachers included Jascha Bordsky,
David Cerone, Miriam Fried, Felix Galimir, and Jaime Laredo. Mr.
Chan became first violinist of the Miami String Quartet in January
of 1995.
YU
JIN, viola, has earned many awards, including the first prize of the Washington International Competition, Chicago Viola Society Solo Competition and Ohio Viola Society. She has collaborated with James Colon, members of Guarneri Quartet, Julliard Quartet, Mendelssohn Quartet, and the Cleveland Orchestra. She is also the principal of Canton Symphony Orchestra, City Music Cleveland, co-concertmaster and soloist of Case/CIM Baroque Orchestra. Jin studied with Jeffrey Irvine at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
CATHY MENG ROBINSON, violin, is a founding member of the Miami String Quartet.
She received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the Curtis Institute
of Music, and her Masters degree from the San Francisco Conservatory
of Music. Her teachers include Ivan Galamian, David Cerone, and
Isadora Tinkleman.
KEITH ROBINSON, cello, is a founding member of the Miami String Quartet
and has been active as a chamber musician, recitalist, and soloist
since his graduation from the Curtis Institute of Music. Robinson
has had numerous solo appearances with orchestras throughout Texas
and Florida, and in 1989 won the P.A.C.E. "Classical Artist
of the Year Award."
