| The
Microbiology Learning Center Funding: Provided by a grant from OhioLINK, Columbus, OH ![]() Overview and Goal: This instructional web site addresses the development of an interactive, resource-based web product for the expressed activity of enhancing lecture-based learning in Basic Microbiology using the Internet. The site incorporates OhioLINK and other library resources into instructional techniques and curriculum to create electronic forums through which students can share a common experience in microbiology across campuses and institutions, and faculty can share resources and pedagogical strategies to improve the quality of Basic Microbiology instruction. Students and faculty at any of the Kent campuses offering Basic Microbiology are able to access OhioLINK, KentLINK and WWW resources on a structured and guided site. Implemented in three phases, the site is being developed and mounted to first support the curriculum of Basic Microbiology in the academic year 1997-98. Additional resources and links will be provided during the year of funding to add a digital image bank, user and instructor forums and other microbiology-related resources (phase 2). A future resource to be added after the site is evaluated will be the addition of distance-learning capabilities utilizing real-time access to seminars, laboratory experiments and clinical sites (phase 3).
