Fragment
French, ca. 1750s
White
silk taffeta costume fabric brocaded with polychrome, gilt filé
and frisé,
and silver frisé thread.
Brocading
describes a general process in which a supplementary weft is introduced
into a ground weave. In this pattern, the brocading weft is limited
to the width of the area where it is required and does not travel
from selvage to selvage (CIETA).
