This gown was altered in the nineteenth century and, before it was restored, it had a Petersham (waist ribbon) with the inscription "E. Stauffer, 6 West 39th Street, New York." The restoration brought back of the original eighteenth century structure of the garment, from the robe à l'Anglaise back pleats to the draped structure à la Polonaise.
