By the 1830's roller printed cottons were widely available and the pattern drawers and printers had expanded their production for a much wider market. The diameter of the printing rollers required a small pattern repeat, in this case only 6 5/8", so the designers needed to be very inventive to keep the design interesting. The use of vining foliage and numerous types of blossoms helped to achieve this goal. The motif is completely outlined in black which over time has oxidized to brown. The green leaves are made by overprinting yellow with blue.
