The traditional Cretan costume is fashioned from blue felt by a special tailor, the levendoraftis.  The distinctive feature of the costume is the vraka, a kind of wide baggy trousers.

- yileki (sleeveless waistcoat)
- mindani (sleeved jacket)

- zounari (sash), approximately 26 feet long, where the basalis (knife) is tucked in

- kiousteki (ornamental watch chain)

- stivalia (boots)

- black fringed kerchief

- kapoto (cape)

This costume was worn in the region of Anogeia, in the Mylopotamos district.
- white cotton bloomers and chemise.

- sartza (red half-skirt)
- white cotton apron with woven designs

- kondochi (felt jacket)

- skoufoma (red kerchief)

- red belt with basaliki or argyrobounelaki (silver knife and sheath), worn when the wearer is betrothed or married

- botonia (necklace) with abrakamboi (coins)
