Woman's Semi-formal Surcoat
China, nineteenth century
Deep navy silk satin with gold couched embroidery. Because of the style and quality of the surcoat, it may have been appropriate for a prince or princess. The garment is less formal as the roundels contain cranes and flowers rather than dragons.
