Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
Indigo dyed cotton and ramie plain-weave decorated with resist dyeing technique creating family crest
(mon) motifs trimmed with natural leather strips. This type of ensemble appears in kyogen theater, the
comic interludes between plays in Noh theater.
