Do Beautiful Clothes Need to be Pretty?

Rei Kawakubo does not think so.  Trained as a philosopher, she takes a cerebral approach, deconstructing clothing in order to free it.  She shocks the fashion world with distressed, broken, missaligned shapes expressive of anarchy.  Her irreverent interrogation of convention has left the western world piqued and perplexed, yet fascinated by this seemingly distorted mirror of itself.
