The sitter is wearing a light-blonde curled periwig typical of the ones worn
at the court of Louis XIV in the early part of his reign. He wears a softly gathered lace trimmed cravat,
a fine
white muslin chemise (shirt) trimmed in lace at the cuffs, an elaborate metal armor punctuated with gold
fleurs de lys
, a red baldric trimmed with silver lace across his chest and gold fringed leather gloves.

In this illustration, Louis XIV wears a flat crown hat with wide curved brims trimmed with feathers, a curled periwig, a
softly gathered lace trimmed cravat, a short bolero jacket over a fine white muslin chemise (shirt) gathered in small
volumes at the sleeves and trimmed with red ribbons, a baldric, petticoat breeches trimmed with yards of ribbon,
green stocking with ribbon garters and high-heeled shoes with red heels trimmed with ribbon.
