area in the middle of the shawl which can be left plain or be
ornamented profusely.
4. Corner ornament:
pine or other motif repeated in the four corners of the field
5. Gallery:
band of decoration running around the field
6. Main
border: band of motifs running parallel to the weft and usually
repeated at both ends of a shawl
7. Vertical borders:
woven or embroidered borders following the warp direction
8. Selvage:
the edge of either side of a woven or flat-knitted fabric finished
to prevent ravelin
